Maternal Depression, Parental Practices and Child Sex: Prediction of Children’s Behavior

Abstract Exposure to maternal depressive symptoms and negative parenting practices during childhood configures a vulnerability factor associated with behavior problems among children. This study aims verify the predictive effects of depression (main factor) on behavioral outcomes practices, considering sex children (covariate factor); effect depression, child’s outcomes. The sample was composed community 101 mother-child pairs. Mothers answered to: Structured Clinical Interview for DSM Disorders, Parenting Styles Inventory, Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire. covariance multiple linear regressions analysis showed that being boy, specific neglect, physical abuse, permissive discipline were main predictors exposed depression. These findings underline role in interactions between variables, which could contribute interventions mental health.
